About the Artist
John
displayed a marked natural talent for drawing
as a young boy, but didn't start painting as
a hobby until age twenty. In the early 1980's
he wanted to pursue a full time painting
career but, with a young family to support,
chose to paint after hours while working
during the day.
In
2002 John commenced painting full time
professionally and is now widely regarded as
one of Australia's finest artists across a
range of genres.
People
often compare John's work favourably to that
of Heysen, Gruner, Streeton, Withers, Roberts
etc. Alan Campbell, curator of Heysen Art,
The Cedars, frequently refers to
John as "the other Heysen".
Not
unlike Heysen, John possesses extraordinary
drafting skill and demonstrates great
versatility with a wide range of mediums such
as pencil, charcoal, conté, pastel, oils and
watercolour to produce landscapes, seascapes,
floral/still life, human figure/portraits as
well as works featuring birds and animals.
Visually
striking and convincing representations of
the real thing, his works possess great
beauty and intense realism which stir the
heart and lift the soul. His masterful use of
colour and tone create a powerful illusion of
space, light and atmosphere. Light
particularly is a notable feature of his
work, prompting comments by viewers, artists
and reputable judges. These qualities
combined with John's keen powers of
observation, superb drawing skill and
passionate response to an inexhaustible array
of subjects, sets him apart from other
artists.
With
no formal training John developed his craft
through constant practice and study of the
work of famous artists including Hans Heysen,
Elioth Gruner, Arthur Streeton, James
Fetherolf, Richard Schmid etc..
Internationally
celebrated wildlife artist William T Cooper
OA, describes John's works as stunning and
way underpriced for the outstanding quality.
His works are held in private and
corporate collections worldwide and are also
on display at Gallery 82 on King William in
Adelaide, Morpeth Investment Art Gallery in
the Hunter Valley, NSW.

What
is a Giclée?
The
Giclée Fine Art Print (pronounced Zhee-clay)
is a museum quality, high resolution digital
print
on rag art papers or fine art canvas and is
the modern alternative for art lovers.
State-of-the-art
equipment allows the printer to capture the
emotional essence of the artist's original
work.
The
Giclée print renders deep saturated colours
and has a beautiful painterly quality that
retains
minute and subtle tints, blends and detail.
"I can't tell the Giclée from the
original" is usually the comment
from the artist.
In
the USA, Giclée prints are providing huge
growth in the print market, taking over from
the traditional methods
(lithographs and screen printing), especially
in the fine art business. It has now become
the popular and requested way for artists,
galleries and publishers to make reproductions
and prints. This has had such an effect that
the majority of reproductions in the USA today are
done using the Giclée techniques.
